IA former Registrar and IT Director of a UK university initially developed SITS in 1991. The company, Strategic Information Technology Services, started in a residential property in Beverley, East Yorkshire, before moving to commercial property in Middleton-on-the-Wolds. In 2004, Tribal Group PLC acquired SITS.

Key Features of SITS

  1. Student Records Management: SITS allows institutions to store, administer, and manage all student information. This includes personal details, academic records, and progression data.
  2. Admissions and Enrollment: The system supports the entire admissions process, from handling inquiries and applications to managing offers and enrollments.
  3. Course Management: SITS helps in organizing and managing course details, including timetables, course materials, and assessments.
  4. Examinations and Assessments: The system facilitates the administration of exams and assessments, tracking student performance and grades.
  5. Student Support: SITS provides tools for managing student support services, such as counseling, financial aid, and accommodation.

SITS Cloud

Tribal SITS Cloud, is a cloud-based Student Information System (SIS) with the purpose to enhance the efficiency and agility of higher education institutions. Here are some key differences:

  1. Deployment: SITS Cloud is hosted on remote servers, while on-premises SITS is hosted on the institution’s own infrastructure.
  2. Maintenance: Cloud solutions reduce the need for on-site maintenance, whereas on-premises solutions require dedicated IT resources.
  3. Scalability: Cloud solutions offer more flexibility and scalability compared to on-premises setups.
  4. Cost: Cloud solutions often have lower upfront costs but ongoing subscription fees, while on-premises solutions have higher initial costs but potentially lower long-term expenses.

Overall, SITS Cloud offers enhanced security, agility, and cost efficiency, making it a suitable choice for institutions looking to modernize their infrastructure. On-premises SITS, on the other hand, provides more control and customization but requires significant resources for maintenance and security.
